Google has posted images of Android 4.4.4 for nexus devices, but there are no signs of OTA updates yet.
Google has released Android 4.4.4 factory images for several Nexus devices including the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 on its developer site. No announcement or information on what is included in the release has been mentioned though.
According to reports, the Nexus 5 is the first device to get the Android 4.4.4 update OTA and should gradually become available across regions soon. The images have the build number KTU84P and mostly contains security fixes. Android Police reports that the update fixes a bug pertaining to CVE-2014-0224, an OpenSSL bug that left devices vulnerable to "man-in-the-middle attacks". The bug was fixed and seems to be referred to as CVE-2014-0224. It is a serious bug and stems from the Heartbleed fiasco.
Other Nexus users can install the factory image themselves, though waiting for the OTA update to arrive is the wisest option. We expect the roll-out to the other Nexus devices to come within a few days. Google Play Edition devices are expected to receive the Android 4.4.4 update soon as well.
Google had rolled out the Android 4.4.3 update earlier this month. The update is still being rolled out for Google Nexus devices, Play Editions as well as Motorola smartphones worldwide. The Nexus 7 (2013) Wi-Fi only variant was the first device to receive the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update OTA. After Google released the Android 4.4.3 KitKat factory images for Nexus devices, Motorola also announced the same update for its Moto G, Moto E and Moto Xsmartphones.
